Hi, I'm Dave Tew, a web designer in North England, with a bit too much time on his hands and this is MuayThaiLand.com, my
website all about going to Thailand to do Muay Thai.
The whole thing is coded by me (with the foundations being laid by my brother a few years ago before I knew PHP and
MySQL). I'm sure you can appreciate
that a site this size takes CRAZY amounts of time and effort to code but I still apologise if there are bits that seem unfinished.
MuayThaiLand has been an on-going hobby for me over the last 7 years or so and doesn't exactly create an income, thus
development progress can sometimes be slow.
I first went to Thailand in 2001, in my gap year
before university when I was 19. I had such a great time at
the Lanna Muay Thai boxing camp that when I got
home I wrote a basic page of information about what it's like to train and live out there and added a load of photos.
My site was one of the first of its kind and quickly attracted a lot of attention via word of mouth. When I
went back to Lanna in 2003 I was pleasantly surprised to see that there were many people training there who had
only gone because of my site. This was a sure sign of the site's influence and I wanted to develop it.
When I got home I bought the domain MuayThaiLand.com and as well as practicing various web designs on the
layout I started adding material to it too. I got people I knew online to write about their experiences over in
Thailand and stuck it all on the site.
It was then that I thought about really going for it and setting MuayThaiLand up to be able to release
its full potential. At the time the site was basically just about my experiences at one camp in Thailand. I wanted
to create an entire community in which members would produce and share their own content and experiences meaning that
the information provided on the site would be potentially limitless.
And that is what MuayThaiLand has become! A thriving, home-made community used by 1000s of people who are planning a trip to Thailand.
Whether you're a champion fighter, a complete beginner or just someone curious about life over in the Far East,
I am sure that you will find MuayThaiLand helpful, useful, entertaining and interesting. Remember, this place
is growing and changing all the time so if you have any suggestions then get in contact and we'll see what we can do.
Thanks for your time and enjoy the site!
Dave
