Chaing Mai Or Pai
Hey, so I'm currently in Chiang Mai. Went to bangkok for 4 nights. Here for 6 nights then looking to begin my training. I was going to do some training for 2 weeks in Chiang Mai (hadn't decided on a gym) and then do a couple weeks in charm chai in Pai.
I've been reading a lot of good things about Charn Chai so I was thinking about just going to pai and spending a month there.
What are your thoughts on this gym. Has anyone trained there? Or do you think there's a better camp in Chaing Mai and I should split my time?
Do 2 weeks at Santai or HongThong then 2 weeks in Charn Chai.
Charn Chai is a good gym for the north that's very accommodating of tourists of all levels, but a month in Pai would get pretty damn boring.
I was going to say the say, Pai can get very boring after 3 days or so and the food choices are limited, no fruit in the mountains...
What Rambutan said. Pai can get boring real quick. I went there for a week in 2010, and went back in 2013. There's not much to do besides training, but it doesn't have the Idyllic atmosphere it used to have anymore either.
Charn chai is a good place to learn technique though. The few sessions I did there really improved my basics because the trainers have a good eye for detail. I probably could have learned a lot more if I stayed longer, but I got bored out of my mind with Pai. A friend of mine went to charn chai for a few times, stayed for 6 weeks at a time. I don't know how he does it.
Pai can be really cheap though, so it can be a good place to go if you blow all your in chiang mai or some other place. I got a bungalow with a fan and shower by the side of the river for 1000bt per week. They even had some small bamboo huts for 50bt a day.
Ok thanks for the advice. I think I will train at hongthong here in Chiang Mai for 2 weeks. Then do one week in pai charn chai. Then head down to Phuket. Do a month there.
Never stayed in pai but I trained at santai in Chiang Mao a couple of years ago. Top trainers and a few new ones since I was there incl manasak pinsinchai. Good family atmosphere, reccomend it !
