(Muay Thai Camp) A Review Of Happy Gym Muay Thai By Wesly80
Male, 35, Beginner, Solo training one year with two weeks training in Thailand, Chiang Mai, definitely going back! I traveled from Fiji Islands>Korea>Thailand.
I got the 90 day tourist visa from the Thai Consulate in Papua New Guinea
Visa was real easy to get for tourist I started just before Xmas 2014 and trained for about 5 days going twice a day. Actually I just met Mr Happy, P Ban on Loi Kroh walking back to my hotel wearing a Muay Thai shirt he stopped me and we chatted mainly about stance. This gym will focus on stance first and foremost before anything else. Thats when I was convince to join up the next morning. Training is only one-to-one so it is really focused and you improve quickly. For beginners this is ideal.
Always starting with stance as the foundation. Again only one trainer, My Happy and he only does private one to one training. I learned so much in 5 days beginning with stance solid, you can do everything from there (punch, kick, elbow, block, defend) is what Mr Happy taught me. A little hard to understand at first but once I got used to his accent all good. For teaching technique his English is more than sufficient. Hes got a ring set up in his garage! ITs a pretty decent set up and more than enough for one to one training. Good gloves, two bags, pads and everything 600 THB per session. If you train twice thats 1200 in a day.
Overall I think it was reasonable especially for beginner with short amount of time. You need transport out to his village also about 12-15 mins out the old city I did watch some fights about 3 nights at Loi Kroh stadium and Lanna, no fighters from Happy Gym were fighting None N/A There is a small house with bed and cooking facilities right near the boxing ring. You have to cook for yourself and its about 15 min tuktuk ride from Chiang Mai. Cant remember as I didnt stay at the gym, I think it was 400THB per day No Actually I stayed in Chiang Mai, Charoen Prathaet Rd just outside the old city. 5-10 min walkt to the night bazaar. can get a decent meal (meat veg rice) for 30-60 THB and fresh fruit juice for another 30THB just great! Really wasnt there to party. But Chiang Mai has plenty of night spots, girlie bars etc Cooking classes, shooting range, river and water buffalo tours, tiger land man lots to do in and around Chiang Mai if you have energy left after training twice a day! :) I really learned a lot with the one to one training. I think overall for beginners especially people with not a lot of time this gym is ideal!
If you are looking for a gym with a lot of sparring partners this is not the place to go.
Overall I will definitely go back Dec 2015
