(Muay Thai Camp) A Review Of Patong Stadium Gym By Chikoroll

31yo aussie
done lots of muay Thai and jitz over the years
been to Thai land lots Originally got a non b working holday visa.
ended up working around Thai land for almost 3 years Trained only thursday and friday mornings Just ended up there There was a little bit of structure but nobody really cares whether you follow it or not it seems.
3 pad rounds
then warm down There were only 2 guys training the small morning group of about 4 people. The guy who was holding my pads was a nice guy. He did teach a couple of techniques while hitting pads.
i was dissapointed that they turn up late to open the gym with people waiting and then sit around talking about what they did the night before.
overall the did little to motivate and push me Not great but enough to communicate. Normal really Gloves and shinguards and wraps all supplied free.
No sweat towels.
Water is 10 baht.
Ring is decent, very soft on floor.
They have some old weights and stuff to use which is good.
Mirrors a lot.
The heavy bags are terrible and my only real complaint. There must be about 8 in a row and every single one is virtually empty in the top third. Kicking them was fine but punching them was punching an empty bag and very difficult. They really need to top them up. They make a load of money from there expensive tickets, they should put some into the gym. 500 per day for 1 session or 800 for the 2.
I paid 500 the first day as a test. It was ok and went the next day with a pocketful of baht to pay longterm but when the trainers turned up late and didnt show much interest I cancelled that idea. Zero
I don't like the idea of paying 2000 baht a ticket when Thai s walk in free.
Generally... as it happens everywhere in Thai land 0
if I was going to fight I would find a less laid back gym No rating Im not sure whether it is part of the gym but there is decent looking accomodation right next door with a pool and everything. It is only new and wasn't there a few years ago.
personally I live in an apartment elsewhere in patong for 5500 per month.
however there are also apartments in the alley near the stadium There are apartments all over patong for rent around 5000 per month so not much point in mentioning mine. But I recommend people to take pictures of there power and water meters and be clear on that stuff when renting from someone you don't know.
my water is 20 baht a unit and power 8 baht a unit. As a guide. Total bill per month around 2000. I didnt see any food there is something opposite over near the bungy jump but probably not open before 8am training was going to the yorkshire inn for weetbix before class.
Maccas is also 24hrs but that doesnt sit too well during training. Patong.... Too much stuff to mention in phuket really
google... The first day I thought it wasnt the best but ok enough that I could get something out of it. 2nd day felt as if I was alone in a room.
yeh what you put in is what you get out... true, but I can get a skipping rope and skip and stretch near my apartment. I want trainers to push me and be involved in training. Apart from the 3 rounds of pads its almost do as you please.
there were only 3 or 4 guys both days I went here. 2 dissapeared as soon as they got there which just left me and another young guy. Both days this other guy came in and played with his phone and had a little hissy fit when the wifi stopped working. I have never been to a camp before where you are allowed to "stretch" in the ring with your legs up playing with your phone for the entire class.
There is no running here at all that I saw.
also no timer for the rounds. Infact not really any rounds at all. Up to you time.
some of the cleaning chicks are hot.
High season is here already in patong but actually it is a quiet high season this year. I'm not sure if it is the lack of people training here or what but overall not much hard work getting done in this place and not much to motivate you. Maybe if they had a full mat of students they would be more into it. If you want trainers that push you and get you working try another place.

Wow Sucks, a bit like my Virapol experience, do a bit of research next time I guess, but hey you now know right, you won't know till you try them all out

Yeh I have been coming to patong regularly for 4 years and always wondered what it was like at this place.
i am glad a tried it and saw it so I won't always wonder.
everyone says ja vien is a good camp so I will try that next week I think.

Wha about Singpatong, would be good to hear your thoughts on tha, tha seems to be the best place in Phuket training wise I have heard

Where is ja Vien located at?

Singpatong is a fighters gym and on a different level. I really want to train there one day but I know that I'm not ready at the moment.
If I train at another place and am breezing through the rounds then I would say I'm ready to go there.
ja vien camp is up in that same part of patong. Its actually in google maps and the location appears to be correct.
When I go I will do a review of that as well.

Cool, cheers mate looking forward to your review.
