Where To Train In Patong
After working in Thailand for near 3 years I am done with it and now down in Patong bored out of my brain wondering where the best place is to train. I know Patong quite well but havn't been here for a couple of years.
I trained at maximum when it was at the old location at jj plaza. It was ok but not a lot more. I imagine it is better now. There is a new club at that location in jj plaza but I went past and it just looks the same as before but worse.
After reading good things on the net about Patong boxing gym I decided to go there today for a look and bought some stuff but after reading the review on here it sounds like a waste of time so I cancelled that idea.
Singpatong up on the hill... Hardcore fighters gym. I havn't done any exercise in about 2 years and don't want to walk in there unless my fitness is tops.
patong stadium gym... sounds ok. Is running compulsory here?
Ja vien... I hear it is good but its hard to get any info on the place.
At the moment I am thinking either patong stadium gym or new maximum down on the beach but would love to know if there are any I am forgetting. As I am so out of shape I wouldn't mind training in a small less known gym somewhere for a week first.
I trained at Ja Vien once. The gym was empty when I was there in low season. Was practically a one on one. Training follows the usual Thai style, running, skipping, bag work, padwork etc. The padwork I received was very good and there was a friendly atmosphere in the gym. That was way back in June and the trainer I hit pads with still remembers me if I see him in patong stadium. Good people. Also they must be connected with the cops because if you show the card from the gym or say your training there you'll get waved on at checkpoints.
I spent 3 weeks in Singpatong. If you really really just want to put your head down and train hard it's good. They run alot, I guess that's testament to how fit their fighters are. Some really good Thais and farangs training there. I was in good shape and I found the running really tough. Some of the guys will hitch a lift off passing pick ups on the afternoon run,the running everywhere else since has been a piece of piss in comparison.
Yeh I have seen the run they do at singpatong as well. It looks like they run a loop from the camp down the hill and along nanai rd and then up the mega hill back to the camp rd. Definately challenging and not something I am interested in doing on my first day of exercise in 2 years. Isn't ja vien camp up that hill too not far from singpatong? Google maps puts it up there.
By comparison though there were also hills in the island muay Thai run in koh tao and it seems like patong boxing gym as well.
Ya that's the evening run, the morning run is longer, they don't turn of to run along nanai road. It keeps going and you run on front of jungceylon and Bangla road. Can be funny though, seeing the stragglers from the previous night.
Ya it's on the same hill, just up 5sibee road on the left.
That is a nightmare run haha
I ended up going to maximum but was an hour early so I went to patong stadium gym instead. It was ok so I will just train there I think at least until I get my fitness back again.
How far is singpatong from the big C?
If your talking about Big C at jungceylon in patong then not far. Maybe 6 or 7 mins on a scooter.
You go along nanai rd and turn to go up the hill when you see montes restuarant. From there its along that rd on the left.
Better if you ask someone when your up on that road because I went past it the first time without knowing
Sorry montes is on sainamyen rd not nanai
If you don't know the area just get a motorbike taxi to show you. From big c it'll probably be 50 baht or so. I had to do the same
Ahh yeah I know where that is now actually. Cheers, might head there this Feb for few weeks before I go to the north.
